History of BHV Marais

BHV Marais was founded in 1856 by Xavier Ruel, a visionary entrepreneur who had the idea to create a department store that would offer a wide variety of products at affordable prices. Over the years, the store has been a great success and has been expanded several times to meet the growing demand.

The building of BHV Marais is an architectural masterpiece. It was designed by architect Frédéric-Jules Raulin in a neo-Byzantine style, characterized by decorative elements inspired by Byzantine and oriental architecture. The façade of the building is adorned with relief motifs and elegant sculptures that reflect the aesthetics of the time.
